Great to see Hospital Doctor Retention and Motivation Project findings in Business Post Elaine Byrne today. I agree that IRL faces a #DrRetention crisis. I don’t agree that an emigration ban is the solution. Improving the working conditions of hospital doctors is the only way to encourage retention or return!

Little change in the rate of doctor migration from IRL to AUS, with 410 Irish doctors issued with visas so far in 2023. Most (225/410) went to Western Australia; most (but not all) are early career doctors (339/410 are RMOs). IRL must do more to encourage return and #DrRetention

Sadly lots of examples this week of how hard it is for doctors (and all healthcare workers) to work in healthcare services that are failing patients. Feeling responsible for circumstances one has no power to change is a heavy burden. Going on for years.
