Some of our lovey author friends have sent us some birthday messages to congratulate us🎉 Starting off is the brill Richard O'Neill who started off our wonderful #WorldBookDay celebrations earlier this year too 📚 Leeds Libraries Child Friendly Leeds Leeds Libraries
Now the summer holidays are out of the way, we've been thinking about autumn reading highlights, and also looking back at some of our faves from earlier in the year. Keep your eyes peeled for some fab recommendations. Hit us up Leeds Libraries if you've any of your own to share!
First up is Spent Light by Lara Pawson, published by Charles Boyle. Easily one of the novels of the year, this a masterpiece of comic grotesquery oozing with the Fear and Loathing of modern life, and a writing masterclass in how to do 'less is more.'
Birding by Rose Ruane is an essential read. A dream read for hauntologists, it's a dark, poetic examination of the #MeToo movement, the complexities of life in the social media age, and how difficult familial relationships impact our lives in ways we can't imagine.
You may have read extracts of susannacrossman brilliant memoir in The Guardian. A fascinating, raw, honest, uncompromising and highly intelligent account of her life growing up as a child in a so-called 'Utopian' community and how she's processed its effects in adult life.
Leeds' very own SJ Bradley is back with a great set of sharply observed short stories, published by Northern Small Press Publisher Of the Year Fly on the Wall Press. The launch for this is at the end of the month with Holdfastleeds, in conversation with @stuhennigan. Don't miss it!!!
Some #poetry now for the long, dark nights ahead. This brooding, unsettling collection from @bobby_gant is so good it comes with a recommendation from the great Wendy Erskine, and we're not going to argue with that! 😍
Lots of people have now completed the Leeds Goth QR Code Challenge, and you can too. Start at leedsnomad.com/gothchallenge Challenge maps are available at 5 key hubs: Jumbo Records, North Taproom: Sovereign Street, SALT Granary Wharf, Leeds Libraries Local & Family History Library and Blue Rinse.
Last one. Even by David Peace's ridiculously high standards this is a special bit of writing, which recasts the myth of the Munich Air Crash in a very human light. An sustained elegy and paean to grief, beautifully understated and impossibly moving. Out with Faber Books
2 parties are better than 1! Here's our book twins to check out in Sept ✈️Flight by David Long 🐝Bee you! by Smriti Halls + clare fennell 🦇 Vlad the Fabulous Vampire by Flavia Z Drago For more, check out our FB page: tinyurl.com/2akfbfsk Leeds Libraries Child Friendly Leeds Leeds for Learning

Don't take our word for it... Allerton CE Primary and Greenside Primary School took a moment to tell us why Leeds SLS 📚 is so, so vital to their schooling and boosting #readingforpleasure in Leeds' children every-single-day📚 Leeds Libraries Child Friendly Leeds Leeds for Learning
What better way to start the week than with a lovely message from the great Liz Flanagan highlighting our important work in connecting Northern writers to Northern readers 📚 Leeds Libraries Leeds for Learning Child Friendly Leeds Children’s Books North
