Do yourself a favour and go see Tambo & Bones Stratford East It's outstanding. Funny and fearless writing that doesn't pull its punches. I was grinning one second and squirming the next. The text slaps as well. Look at those stage directions 👌

Why is it still okay for theatre to treat its freelancers so shabbily and when will the industry act?, asks lyngardner, in response to the results of Freelancers Make Theatre Work's 2023 Big Freelancers Survey bit.ly/3XlqmyS

Theatre friends - I'm hankering for contemporary plays (UK and Int'l) that embrace stillness, subtlety and ambiguity; writing that evokes small, precise details to tell a story. What you got for me? #theatre #newwriting

Excited to start working with this brilliant bunch for The @squinttheatre Playwriting Award programme - it's going to be a fun six months! 🥳

I wrote this piece for The Observer New Review today. It’s been an important piece to write for my colleagues, friends and peers. And for me. Let’s put this right. Please support The Observer New Review by buying a paper as they have supported us playwrights in giving us this voice. Onwards ✊🏻

Just in case you need a refresher … my collected playwriting notes from 2021. I’ve probably changed my mind on some of them by now so don’t take as gospel ! writeaplay.co.uk/mark-ravenhill…

All these AI garbage products pitch that you'll be able to skip the "tedious" parts of writing. But those tedious parts ARE the writing. Slowly going through it, figuring out if you mean "trudge" or should change to "plod", that is where you figure out the big things too

My fundraiser for 'Kordh (Clan)' is now LIVE. It's a queer short film in the Cornish language. We need some help to make it happen. Please consider donating/sharing where you can! gofund.me/289c36f8

If you are or have recently been a freelance script-reader - we want to hear from you. The @dramaturgs_net want greater transparency around pathways into script development, and pay and conditions for freelancers. Take the survey and help us get closer to that. Share/RT.

Big shout out to David Byrne and Chris Sonnex for joining the @squinttheatre Playwriting Award writers for a brilliant chinwag about new-writing, programming and embracing messiness in your work. Legends.

Honestly, if I had to sit through Les Mis, only for Just Stop Oil to barge on stage and disrupt the whole thing, that would make the entire evening immeasurably better and a lot more interesting, dramaturgically speaking.

Edward Bond put Marianne Faithfull on a stage playing Florence Nightingale, having a lesbian affair with Queen Victoria. And for that, we should all be thankful.

I believe this, but also it is difficult to accurately judge who is/isn't working class. I've met lots of artists who very forwardly perform a working class-ness and proudly define themselves as such, & in reality they have/had buckets of privilege and financial/social stability.
