“In August 2024, tickets for the Oasis reunion tour sold out rapidly, with approximately 1.4 million tickets sold over six hours […] or 65 tickets per second for a high-demand ticket sale scenario.” A phenomenal post by renerocksai⚡ on how he 10x’d this with TigerBeetle.

Do you really understand how Linux works? You can read 1,000 books on theory, but the only way to truly get started with understanding an OS is to build one. I wrote a guide on building a time-sharing kernel from scratch in Zig for RISC-V. It hit #1 on Hacker News. It's a

Your Linux process has a built-in kitchen timer. 🍳 sleep() can handle delays, but that stops your program cold. There's a non-blocking alternative: getitimer. Syscall #36 on x86_64, this lets your code keep running while the clock ticks in the background. 🧵👇

This thread is part of my ongoing "Linux System Call of the Day" series! Every day, I break down one of these syscalls, the vital API that lets your userspace programs ask the Linux kernel to perform powerful operations. Follow along to master the OS from the ground up! 🚀

I’ve spent 10 years teaching math to machine learning engineers. 80% of university math is irrelevant to your actual job. Luckily, I've created a FREE roadmap to teach you the 20% you actually need. Like, retweet, and comment "roadmap" and I'll DM you the link.

The 2nd edition of Designing Data-Intensive Applications, by Martin Kleppmann and me, is finished and sent to the printers! Ebooks available next week, and print books in 3–4 weeks. Sigh of relief. 😅 (BTW, this is a good opportunity to support your favourite local bookshop!)
