This thread is one of the reasons why it’s still worth sticking around here. Insightful, civil discussion between the very best minds in the business.

As a happy Tweetbot user for many years, Twitter has become something I've only accessed on my Mac since third-party apps were banned last week. I'm sad to see the service go, but a little less time spent on here is probably for the best.

I've joined the ranks of those smug little Substackers. Here's my sophomore effort, which owes a lot to Tim Harford: datacaster.substack.com/p/the-personal…

I created a webpage using RMarkdown to tell a story about our libraries’ visits data. I inserted the charts into a slide deck, presented it to the Lead Team & linked to the full page. They LOVED it. Stephanie‘s right: don’t communicate everything using a dashboard. Be creative!

Confession: I used to suck at #rstats. 🙈 But teaching a hands-on university course forced me to up my game. I read a ton of resources on stats/ML with R and compiled them into one book. And now you can use it too! Check out yards.albert-rapp.de/index.html to level up your R skills.

My latest #R tutorial on YouTube is about providing feedback to the user as your code is executing: User Communication in R: Command-Line Messages Explained youtu.be/ZSWLwTl2174

I chatted with David Keyes about some of the ways R was used as part of NZ's Covid-19 response. It turns out it was a bit of a ramble through the '@dflydsci way' - principles of data analysis that I learnt at Dragonfly and continue to use nzherald.

What sad and unexpected news. I saw SotL at the Cube Cinema in Bristol many years ago, and they were mesmerising. The Tired Sounds Of… is one of my treasured albums. I hope Adam Wiltzie can piece together a final SotL composition one day. theguardian.com/music/2023/aug…
