A6: I do not have great normal handwriting, actually! I think of calligraphy more as a form of drawing. But nice penmanship certainly helps!

. annarouth great question! :-) You're going to dip your ink more often than you'd expect - your reservoir will empty every 3-4 letters!

A7: Personally, I do not use my forearm. I keep my movement more in my hand. But find your comfort zone! That will help u perform your best.

A8: Gouache is great 4 colors & metallics (see image), but for black ink I love Sumi ink and Higgins. #meetlaurenessl

A9: Your nib will wear as u use it, and it will begin to grab at the paper. Sometimes it will catch & flick ink everywhere… #meetlaurenessl

A9: If you've been using your nib for awhile and it catches and flicks ink, that's a good indication it's time to change! #meetlaurenessl

A10: An oblique pen (see attached image by @amandamarielackey) is used for a slanted script (like Copperplate)...

A10: But I use an oblique pen for all of my lettering! (slanted or upright). A lot of calligraphers use straight pens, too! #meetlaurenessl

.lovinlifemama clean your nibs w soap & water or a nib cleaner. the key is making sure they are completely dry, they rust easily #meetlaurenessl
