Here are some anchor charts for our students in grades K-3. If your school implements writing workshop, these would be helpful in continuing that at home. Or if writing workshop is new for your kiddos, now is a great time to start! Just grab some blank paper!

If I may, let me share some thoughts. Each family is in a VERY different situation. For some, assignments from school are helpful in getting through the day, but for others, I fear many others, offering assignments adds burden when you least need it. 2/

Good morning! Here’s a great lesson on getting at deeper meanings in poetry that aligns with the teacher resource guides by the one and only Shele Banford found on the FCPS Distance Learning YouTube channel. youtu.be/1QOVkwxwGkg

Unpopular opinion of the day: Requiring reading logs documenting how many minutes or pages young people read is more about compliance and exerting control than "motivating" readers or "proving" any reading occurred.

We can still have students read and write independently in a virtual setting. We don’t need slide decks, activities or mandatory question answering. FCPS Region5 FCPS Elem Literacy FCPS MS ELA

I know there’s a lot going on in the world right now, but pls don’t skip recommended cancer screening (mammo, Pap, colonoscopy etc) due to #COVID19 fear. Safety measures are in place to keep everyone safe. Diagnosing cancer at an earlier stage improves the odds of cure.

It’s essential we interrupt the traditional cycle of talk in classrooms: Teacher asks question, student responds, teacher evaluates. Kids need to listen to and respond to EACH OTHER in order to have discussions. I’m starting today with a book club:
