AI decision support systems are not weapons and as such not considered as part of international discussions on . But they should be. I expand a bit on my Walrus piece on the AI use in targeting in Gaza and implications beyond.

Ireland is seeking legislation to allow the use of facial recognition technology (FRT) for policing, and there currently exist little critical discussion/awareness on its dangers.

I'm hoping my piece, fresh out of press, contributes. Pls share widely

Seems like Ireland is about to go ahead and legislate for the use of FRT for law enforcement. Here's a brief analysis by Simon McGarr @[email protected] showing how what's proposed is illegal and full of inconsistent claims from the An Garda Síochána (Irish police)

Re-upping this report I wrote with ARES for the ICRC on explosive weapons - how they work, how targeting is done, what effects do weapons have, fragment numbers, lethality, etc - as we are seeing bombs falling in and rockets in : icrc.org/en/document/ex…

I (+others) risked my career to organize against Google's development of AI weapons. We won. Our arguments were evidenced and clear and made Google (temporarily) cancel the contract.

But being right is not a strategy. And I've been sickly sitting w this.
