This groom surprised his bride by having her students with Down’s syndrome be the ring bearers and I’m a puddle of tears on the floor 😄

The last time there were zero active cases in the state was February 29. We send thanks to you, for doing your part. Let’s keep it up, Victoria. Get tested if you have symptoms, and stick to the restrictions still in place. #StaySafeStayOpen

The RACP is calling on the Federal Government to urgently release the Biloela family from detention and says Australia’s detention of refugees and asylum seekers continues to fly in the face of medical advice. Read media release > racp.edu.au/news-and-event…

Victorians spoke, our public health teams listened! First drive-thru vaccination clinic in the nation to open in Melton tomorrow, delivered by Western Health champs. Bookings required. Pfizer at first, AZ to come shortly. 15mins wait post jab, as usual. #covid19vic

Osman Faruqi To quote myself from, well, FOREVER AGO, "the best vaccine for you is the one you can get today." I'm the biggest vaccination advocate there is - for AZ, Pfizer, or anything else that the TGA approves!

Long Covid in kids is one of the reasons doctors are advising Scott Morrison and Gladys not to ‘open up’ without #SafeIndoorAir in schools (ventilate + filtrate), masks for all kids (yes primary school, too) and staff, and vaccines for everyone 12+ (and younger once approved).

Agree, we need more equitable vaccine allocation with a strategy for hard to reach and vulnerable groups given priority now before we open up, even if we have reached the 80% threshold of eligible adults theconversation.com/opening-up-whe…

Vic community efforts in lockdown 6 prevented around 6000 cases Burnet Institute modelling shows. Chief Health Officer, Victoria said: "But it’s not just those historically avoided cases, it’s the 1700 cases that would have been added today ... or 2000 cases tomorrow." burnet.edu.au/news/1502

I have no doubt that lockdown is having an impact on mental health, but instead of comparing it with having no lockdown, compare it to the mental health impact of mass deaths and burying family and friends. That would be a realistic comparison. #auspol

Humanity is full of underlying conditions. We have chronic illnesses and prior conditions. There are MORE people with chronic illnesses than those with perfect health. 67% of Australians are overweight or obese. DO NOT ATTRIBUTE COVID DEATHS TO UNDERLYING CONDITIONS.

This was a superb response from Queensland CHO and incoming Governor Jeannette Young to a concerning question, “What sort of level of death are you comfortable with, in terms of Covid?” Come on, indeed. This attitude is what OzSAGE seeks to challenge. abc.net.au/news/2021-09-0…

Absolutely agree - multi-layered strategies including vax kids/teachers, masks, serial testing, improved ventilation starting with opening windows (fortunately it’s spring/summer) and then ramping up where needed/feasible etc can get kids back to school. Balance of harms critical

If I may, a🧵. 1/- I am in Melbourne, and do not have first hand account of what it is like in NSW ICUs right now. But I feel the fear & stress in what my colleagues are saying. ICU nurses are perfectionists. To not be delivering ‘best care’ will be intensely distressing.

Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 significantly reduces your chance of going to hospital. Of people with COVID-19 who are currently being treated in hospital, almost all of them are unvaccinated and none of them are fully vaccinated.

It’s good covid is generally mild in kids. I agree with this. Only about 1% need admission. Agree. But I have an evolving and serious concern about covid in kids. A thread It is mainly just down to maths. And going back to the precautionary principle 1/11 theage.com.au/politics/victo…

So thrilled to have worked on this project alongside the best team! The impact on infant growth, feeding and maternal wellbeing is an important, under-recognised ripple effect of the pandemic.
