Short 🧵for students and juniors about using one's forceps to 'set down' the suture threads in a running suture, so that they are evenly spaced (L picture) instead of awkward and irregular (R picture). We'll see how to do this, and what may happen at times if it isn't done. (1/)

I remember some radiologists asking for my GMC number and asking me to type on the request “I take responsibility if contrast causes AKI” as a F2, to get a contrast CT scan done. It’s taken a long time despite the evidence being there for years.

🔥10 top movies that help me make better decisions as a surgeon So for something different...I've always enjoyed watching movies. Especially those based on real-life stories, dealing with overcoming physical and mental adversity.

Why do residents work so much? Tradition. In the 1890s, Dr. Halsted created the model for residency training--residents worked 24/7 with little pay. Sadly, he was using cocaine to stay awake & morphine to sleep, relying on residents working nonstop to cover up his addiction.

ESOPEC trial It’s been a long 15 year journey, but so nice to see Docetaxel triplets come on top for the benefit of our patients! CROSS just doesn’t work for GEA-EAC- radiation compensates for poor surgical control (trans-hiatal) and CM577 compensates for poor systemic control

After >10 yrs work,TOPGEAR has readout ⁦NEJM⁩ congrats Prof T Leong and team. Somewhat unsurprising results given CRITIC, ARTIST and ESOPEC -> limited benefit of Rtx in the curative space. Again we see path resp having no bearing on DFS and OS. nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…
