Spent 5 months building the new Purdue Hackers passport. Each one is handmade by its owner & has an NFC sticker embedded in its cover. We've built a bunch of cool infra around them, including a "Sign In with Passport" API written in Rust. 41 have been made so far. More ↴

I made a spatial canvas UI for searching my blog posts, using embeddings for groupings. They’re surprisingly cogent—far more compelling than a one-dimensional vertical link list. It’s using OpenAI embeddings stored in ChromaDB for the search & xyflow · React Flow · Svelte Flow on the frontend.

Got to catch up over skiing & hiking with the Hack Club crew in Burlington this weekend, then experiencing totality with Vincent Spitale. I just stood there crying, utterly overwhelmed, & we gave the moon a standing ovation. Made basically no attempt to capture it. Spectacular.

The energy across standards bodies, browser engines, & frontend developers going into improving the web platform for UI engineering is phenomenal. Has anyone written about how this acceleration got going? What pushed the web to start improving so fast?

This passage from Linus is beautiful: “If you consider yourself a technologist, here’s your imperative: build things that are unabashedly, beautifully tangled into all else in life — people and relationships, politics, emotion and pain, understanding or the lack thereof,

So so excited to re-join Watershed as Design Engineering Lead after I graduate next spring!! I had a blast piloting the role this summer 💙 I started in Feb ‘21, when we were a dozen ppl on Zoom. Today, it’s ~400 across 4 offices managing a gigaton of CO2, yet just beginning!
