At the beginning of last year, Xiaoyu Yang came with a Humboldt-Stiftung fellowship and a beautiful Cambrian annelid fossil to our department. Have a look what it means for annelid evolution, with @MTAguado and Conrad Helm royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…

I'm excited to share the preprint of my second work from Rink Lab. This time we looked into the stem cell system of my favorite catenulid flatworm, Stenostomum. Using plenty of methods we showed that it is... very different from what one would expect from a flatworm!

Exciting day! 🌟 I get to share two new papers on chaetae and chaetogenesis! One is on the peculiar Osedax, arguably one of the strangest annelids, and the other explores Capitella, one of the few established models in annelid studies. Here's a quick look at both. 🧵1/7

Planarians are model systems for stem cells & regeneration. Ivanković et al. provide new genome assemblies of S. mediterranea & 3 relatives, showing that synteny is not an evolutionary constraint in flatworm genome evolution. By checking the Fox gene complement in additional catenulid and macrostomorph species, I show that the evolution of Fox complement in flatworms is related to ancestral losses and multiple, independent, lineage-specific expansions. link.springer.com/article/10.100…
