In the substantially separate model, students only participate in classes with other students with disabilities. Students may be able to have some social experiences and be offered employment experience through a rotation of slots available. #Option2 #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

Success in college will come in part to overcoming barriers. The majority of PSE programs identify attitude and low expectations as the most significant to overcome. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

Focusing on your goals can help you achieve success when things are maybe stressful at school. A study found that students with ID who had PSE experience were more likely to get competitive employment, had fewer supports, and earned more money #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

A big way to be successful in not just college, but college life is to be able advocate and articulate support needs in college, community, and employment settings. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

Another way to achieve success in college, is to connect college coursework to current or future employment and find a way to stay engaged in paid integrated community employment prior to graduation #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

A good way to be successful in college is to be engaged in all aspects of accessing college coursework. This includes reviewing your schedules, participating in registration, applying for waivers, and asking for accommodations from professors #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

Having a strong support system goes a long way. There was a youth in a recent study who was deemed "Uneducable". Due to having support from his mom, Voc Rehab, 2 college students, and a professor, he was able to have success in college academics. #CollegesuccessTips #KYSPIN

Having the right support is critical. Having person-centered supports around you can greatly increase your success in college and also your comfortability in transitioning. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

YOU should be driving your support needs, because they should be student driven. They can be coordinated by you or someone you choose. Examples are a friend, case manager, HS teacher, family member, Voc Rehab counselor, etc. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

Another great way to have success in college is to talk to the professors before each semester. This will help you find out what is required for that class and what supports you may need. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

A creative and positive approach to potential barriers and ability to collaborate with others to overcome these barriers is essential when it comes to success at the post-secondary level. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

If any attitudinal barrier exists for you as someone labeled with a disability, you can turn to your support, get what you need and get past these attitudes, but they must be confronted. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

Creative use of existing community supports will serve you well when it comes to having and keeping success. Being creative is key, you can not only use the existing supports, but meet new ones as well. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

One attitude that is beneficial to have is the willingness to challenge assumptions about the capacity of yourself and others as individuals with disabilities in order to learn and succeed. #StigmaMustDie #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

A big thing that leads to success is involvement in extracurricular activity. Colleges have a wide range to choose from. The challenge that every student faces is to balance their personal life with their academic life. You can do it! #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

Instructors having high expectations for your academic participation and learning, having the opportunity to show what you can do, and changing perceptions about people with disabilities all presents a challenge. A challenge that can push you forward. #ChallengeAccepted #KYSPIN

You, Instructors, peers, students, facilitators all sharing the belief that everyone can and does learn is key. Being your own self-advocate will help build alliances and open doors. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

2 big components for success are motivation and organization. The more motivated you are the easier it will be to stay organized. The good news is that these are skills that can be learned and improved upon. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN

Another tip for success is to find ways to de-stress. There is no one-size-fits-all way. You may have to try things to find what works for you. For one student it was to have someone to talk to, another video games, walks, everybody is different. #CollegeSuccessTips #KYSPIN
