I'm still sitting here astonished that they are finally bringing Han & Leia to Galaxy's Edge. It's like a million dollar bill just sitting on the ground and they were too stupid and too far up their own ass to pick it up because they insisted on forcing a Mary Sue on everybody.

One of my favorite lines in Julius Caesar is when Antony, alone with Caesar's body says: Over thy wounds now do I prophesy Which like dumb mouths do ope their ruby lips To beg the voice and utterance of my tongue. Not the more famous: Cry “Havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war

Mad Men is especially impressive compared to The Sopranos and Breaking Bad because it doesn't really have the automatic audience hooks that genre shows do. 60-70% of it is literally just normie white-collar workers having meetings in their offices, and it's fucking riveting.

I'm pretty sure I've seen the John Wayne version of True Grit on like TBS or TNT or something back in the day. Didn't see the newer one. But somebody recommended the book. Read the first two chapters last night. Damn it's good writing.

The secret to a better experience in Paris is to start every interaction, and I mean every one, with bonjour. Even if you don't speak another word of French. Bonjour to the shopkeeper, waiter, ticket counter person, whomever.

Daughter: Are you voting today? Me: yes Daughter: you are voting yes? Me: yes I am voting, but I am voting no because I am against partisan gerrymandering regardless of who does it.

So, I'm disappointed that the VA gerrymandering passed, but the GOP can slow the fuck down on the idea that Arlington & Alexandria should return to DC.

In the film Spanish Prisoner, Ricky Jay’s character, hungover, says “I put a thief in my mouth to steal my brains.” I always liked that line and thought it was from Mamet, but learned he lifted it from True Grit, and Portis actually lifted it from Othello.

I'm like halfway through True Grit, even though it's short, because I just don't have a ton of time to read the last month or so, which is why I put Middlemarch and Count of Montecristo more or less on hold for it. But it's real good. Highly recommend and I'm not even done yet.

The SPLC went off the rails a long time ago, but the claims that they were funding what they were tracking to have something to track seem overblown on the face of it, and I also don’t care enough to look into it.

Daughter: One of my classmates was going on about how much she hates rich people. Me: Does she know that the median household income is $250k and the median home price is like $1.4 mil and 80% of the parents have a college degree? Daughter: Teacher pointed that out. Me: Good.
