It is fantastic to be back in our APHS Engineering Shop. We kicked off with some refresher lessons to rebuild measurement, precision, and lab safety skills. These students really rock! Dr. RaShawn M. Adams @sunshine1018 @APDirCI_ERuiz
A fun design/woodworking project for our first week in the APHS Engineering Academy. Great to be back in school with our student engineers! Dr. RaShawn M. Adams Asbury Park Schools @sunshine1018 @APDirCI_ERuiz
APHS sophomore trip with the Deal Lake Commission explore the Asbury Park Civil Engineering project to improve the water quality in Asbury lakes. So much interest in several career possibilities— “wheels were turning”. @KroposkyJanice @sunshine1018 Asbury Park Schools Dr. RaShawn M. Adams
APHS Junior engineering class watched as the DPW emptied the storm water filter by our school. Ongoing Civil & Environmental Engineering lessons with our Deal Lake Commission. @sunshine1018 Asbury Park Schools @KroposkyJanice Dr. RaShawn M. Adams barbara lesinski
Really proud of how hard our 4th year Engineering Academy students are working on this project. Using so many of the skills they’ve learned and picking up some new ones. @sunshine1018 Dr. RaShawn M. Adams @KroposkyJanice
APHS 8th grade Engineers learn “design constraints”. Building vehicles out of pasta in preparation for a spaghetti derby. @PrincipalONeill @APDirCI_ERuiz Asbury Park Schools Dr. RaShawn M. Adams
APHS Senior Class engineers helping out our Art Dept. Mr Quick asked for 30 artist sketch boards. Finished and delivered them in an hour. Happy to help! @PrincipalONeill Asbury Park Schools Dr. RaShawn M. Adams @APDirCI_ERuiz
Amazed at our Ss’ creativity. One group of 8th grade APHS engineers repurposed their breakfast trash into a coco puff pastamobile. Even a food truck! Real test is the upcoming spaghetti derby. @PrincipalONeill @APDirCI_ERuiz Asbury Park Schools Dr. RaShawn M. Adams
APHS Engineering Ss learned precision measurements, saw & drill safety and then rendered these wooden minions. Very creative work. Ss then reflected on how they are all very different, but still minions—just like us. @PrincipalONeill Asbury Park Schools @APDirCI_ERuiz Dr. RaShawn M. Adams
APHS 1st year engineers used electric saws for the first time, creating Halloween-themed characters from wood with LED eyes. Nice work, class! Asbury Park Schools Dr. RaShawn M. Adams @PrincipalONeill
8th grade Asbury Park engineers created prototype marble roller coasters for Six Flags “FrightFest”. Their designs were complete with magnetic brakes. Love the “tornado”—well done! Asbury Park Schools @PrincipalONeill Dr. RaShawn M. Adams
APHS 8th grade engineers creating machines to move a ping pong ball from 11” high down to the tabletop using only paper and tape. The SLOWEST one wins this challenge. Lots of redesign today! @PrincipalONeill Asbury Park Schools Dr. RaShawn M. Adams
APHS Engineers demonstrate 1-point perspective drawing. Fun, creativity & a new skill with colored masking tape. This hallway project shows the “A” in “STEAM”. @PrincipalONeill Asbury Park Schools @APDirCI_ERuiz
APHS senior engineering Capstone project examples. Ss designed a nightstand with integrated cellphone charger. Plus a table lamp. Taking them home today. After 5 years together, I’ll truly miss them; really proud! @PrincipalONeill @APDirCI_ERuiz Asbury Park Schools
APHS 8th grade engineers Chem Eng unit. Measured pH, mixed acid/bases, did titrations & captured CO2 from baking soda/vinegar in a balloon. Lastly designed CO2 fire extinguishers in empty Gatorade bottles. Worked great; super fun. Asbury Park Schools @APDirCI_ERuiz @PrincipalONeill
8th grade Asbury Park engineers studied environmental engineering & built solar powered hot water heaters from a NASA design. They measured a 10 deg warming. Great designs, new tools/skills and insights. @PrincipalONeill Asbury Park Schools @APDirCI_ERuiz
APHS 10th grade engineers wrote a business plan (target market, pricing, advertising, …) to start a Lamp Repair Company and then cleaned, restored and rewired old, broken lamps. Great engagement learning a lifeskill. @PrincipalONeill Asbury Park Schools @APDirCI_ERuiz
APHS sophomore engineers just started building their first robot, a VEX RECBOT. Students really excited to have some classroom contests and “battles”. They’ll be programming in a few days and then the fun begins!! @PrincipalONeill @APDirCI_ERuiz Asbury Park Schools
