When all you have is a ❤️ on Twitter, what to do? It's with a heavy heart indeed that I see this. This should not be the way our executive branch is. Not very good role models for our country... well except for Obama who literally deserves sainthood. x.com/mayreni27/stat…

Don't write code you like for yourself. Don't be clever. Write code your co-conspirators will understand and be able to maintain with minimal effort. Don't try to be succinct. Be clear and straightforward. If readability is the goal, being succinct can actually hurt.

For our team the three largest reductions in production facing issues came from adding the following to our workflow. 1. Adding compile-time type checking for all code. 2. Screenshot based UI testing. 3. Writing 1 end-to-end integration test that runs against staging nightly.

Things I’m never judging you on in a job interview: - if you’re nervous - your clothes - where you’re from - who you know - technical difficulties - where (or if) you went to school - spelling - names of past employers - your drawing skills or handwriting - what tools you use

Policies (and enumerated exceptions to policies, and exceptions to exceptions) are a piss-poor substitute for judgment. Rules are blunt instruments that stunt your engineers' development and critical thinking skills. Allow me to illustrate.

The worst, most PTSD-inducing outages of my life have all happened after holiday code freezes. Every. Single. One. Don't use rules. Practice good judgment, build tools to align incentives and deploy often; practice tolerating and recovering from pedestrian failures often too.

reputations are a necessary shortcut for dealing with people, but as managers (or leaders) we have a serious responsibility to interrogate a reputation for accuracy, and actively update that reputation when things change. medium.com/@egoossaert/ma…

Whenever a rule is added in a team, first ask: Will the existence of this rule discourage future people from using their human judgement to make smart decisions in nuanced situations?

Watch the low-code community, they’re building something that’s much bigger than software Empowering bootstrapped founders Removing dependencies for pink-collar tech workers: marketing, design, sales Creating a new class of labor who think technically & program visually

America's rapid education: If we whites are astounded by the blatant, horrific police brutality against protestors, then we're waking up to the experience of our Black community in their daily lives. Now ask ourselves, what are we gonna do about it and why did it take this long?

JK Rowling = Can't even. There's no way for me to unread her books unfortunately, but I hope to ensure that she never again profits from me in any way. I was horrified and astounded by her essay and clear-cut bigotry. I'm off to donate to trans organizations. You should too.
