My largest remaining NSF grant, which was awarded by a competitive process on the recommendation of national experts, was terminated yesterday. The money would have paid for PhD students to invent better AI systems for everyday people who need programs written for them but ...

BREAKING: The GOP-led House Budget Committee just voted to reject Trump's big budget bill — an embarrassing setback for Republicans. Five conservative hardliners joined all Democrats in voting against the bill.

Concerned Scientist (@kristin_hook) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Republicans can’t govern. It’s as simple as that. They play childish games while Americans suffer. And the worst part is, THEY DON’T CARE!

Concerned Scientist (@kristin_hook) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Our president is more concerned with celebrity gossip than our real-world problems. I’d rather be prune-skinned than this thin-skinned. What a loser! Also wtf happened to free speech?

Concerned Scientist (@kristin_hook) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I’m thinking every company should have to include an extra line on the printed receipt that says “Trump’s Tariffs” so that consumers know exactly why the costs to buy their products / services have gone up.

Rightfully, the cuts to Medicaid (over 10M people will lose their health care) and the tax cuts for the rich have been the story of the disastrous Republican budget bill. But I read the whole thing. And there are some hidden rats in there you need to know about. 1/ A quick🧵

Chris Murphy 🟧 (@chrismurphyct) 's Twitter Profile Photo

3/ The bill BANS states from regulating artificial intelligence - a present to the big AI companies that send $$ to Republicans. So now no state consumer protections against AI stealing our jobs or corrupting our kids. What citizen is asking for that?? washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/…

Chris Murphy 🟧 (@chrismurphyct) 's Twitter Profile Photo

5/ And there are provisions making HUGE cuts to child nutrition programs. 30% cuts to food for kids. C'mon. That means Republicans are taking food away from 12.6 million people so billionaires can…..buy an extra yacht? politico.com/live-updates/2…

In 2016, a staffer for Texas AG Ken Paxton resigned in March but remained on "emergency leave" through June to retain health coverage for cancer treatment. That staffer was Chip Roy - who is now pressing for deeper cuts to Medicaid to axe health coverage for poor Americans.

Concerned Scientist Chip Roy Nothing at all like Governor Abbott being injured as a young man, left in a wheelchair, suing the bejeezus out of someone, and then championing liability caps in future such instances. The hypocrisy runs deep in this crowd. MAGA Motto: "I got mine".

Concerned Scientist That's Republicanism in a nutshell - climb up the ladder, then kick it away for the next guy. Gov Abbot did same - was crippled, sued the landscaping co and homeowner, got a monthly payment for life, then changed Tex tort law so others couldn't get a settlement like that.

America cannot long remain free, nor first among nations, if it becomes the kind of place where universities are dismantled because they don't align politically with the current head of the government.

What does Qatar want in exchange for their $400 million jet? And what would Trump be willing to give them? The public needs to know if the corruption and national security risks raised by Trump's scheme have been addressed. Congress should investigate. citizensforethics.org/legal-action/l…

If the Trump administration truly cared about antisemitism, they wouldn’t be dismantling DEI initiatives that promote equal treatment for all marginalized groups, including Jews. Their attacks on Harvard & Palestinian protestors are not about combating hate - it’s about control.
