Unlike some PhD advisors, I don't care what career you want or pursue. I've no skin in the game. I designed my PhD career clarity system to work for whatever job market you find yourself on, because you need clarity before you know what to go after! fromphdtolife.com/phd-job-search…

If you’re struggling to decide what you want to do in your next job/career, focus on 3 things you did/do that make you feel energized, happy, and competent. What are those things? Be specific about the details. Now what patterns do you see?

Multiple career changes are normal today. If you’re coming from #Academia, don’t worry about finding a job for the next 20 years. Find a job for the next 2-4.

I'm self-employed. 100% of my income comes from clients - individuals, institutions, other organizations. Here's what I typically charge for standard things (US$): $1500, online workshop or prez, 60-90 minutes $497, PhD Career Clarity Program, 12-month access $175, 1:1 consult

Took a break from sharing career content to respond to last week’s events. I’m back today with this tip: your LinkedIn profile and your resume are always drafts. Don’t treat them like publications. Don’t endlessly polish. Put together a decent draft and get them out there.

Great convo with a client this morning about what fears hold you back from changing careers. I used to prioritize stability. What about you?

I think the hardest thing to grasp, if you’re used to writing CVs and now are writing resumes, is that CVs look backward in time to what you did while resumes look forward to what you will do in the future.

Saw someone ask in a group about flexibility in jobs outside of academia. Here’s the question to ask yourself: what does flexibility mean for you? What do you need? For me, it’s being able to set my work hours to align with my kids’ schedules. What about you?

This is fabulous advice. Follow your interests but don’t miss what’s going on in the world. Making decisions by β€œwhat’s the highest paying/easiest type of job to get” will backfire, but so many ppl get stuck b/c they worry that they can’t find a job that fits in other places.

If you’re pivoting careers, you see advice on networking, resume writing (transferable skills!), interviewing. That’s the tip of the iceberg. First you need to figure out what your values and needs are, and then what aligns with those.
