💥 Assignment help is not intervention. Instead of asking special educators to assist with assignments and #homework, let's ask them to support foundational SKILLS and deep UNDERSTANDING. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #UDL #InclusiveEd #EdLeaders

Wonder how many secondary schools take into consideration the most critical stage of brain development is adolescence. An emotional rollercoaster of impulsive reactions, irrational behaviours that are neurobiologically & physiologically explainable & totally not their fault🧠🌱

We do not need to be qualified therapists or counsellors to make a difference. re-trauma responsive practices If teachers /staff understand how trauma works & a few core concepts on brain science,we can all make a difference.🧠🌱

If you notice a pupil disconnected, dissociated, zoned out, daydreaming.Rather than reprimanding them, check in with them later to see how they are doing.Look beneath the surface .The behaviour could be an outward expression of an inward emotion.🧠🌱

Children do not navigate school with a brain primed to follow rules & be perfect. They arrive with emotional backpacks. Memories,short-term & long-term,toxic stress, parental separation, mental health, or in the midst of a family crisis 🧠🌱

Children understanding their window of tolerance is important in doing trauma work or just working with children in schools. This teaches children how to manage their emotions under stress by giving them a toolkit of inner resources to self-soothe & keep within their window. 🧠🌱

At its essence, trauma is in the nervous system. When your brain perceives a threat,it turns on your sympathetic response, moving from safety to activation, triggering a massive physiological response.🧠🌱

Connection isn't built in minutes,it is built by micromoments & therapeutic micromoments .This is what pupils brains thrive on, it's hardwired for it. The way we speak ,listen & respond has a profound impact, not just emotionally, but also neurologically. 🧠🌱

Open the door to knowledge for every student, regardless of their background or learning style. Open the door to opportunity by connecting students with resources & pathways they might not see themselves. Open the door to belonging & create a welcoming, inclusive environment.
