I was lucky to be chosen to be part of a small-but-mighty writing collective set up by Dr Anna Ploszajski - find me on Instagram. It's absolutely kick-started my writing practice again. Working with great writers is a privilege. Here's my latest essay from a session. Love Story clairekotecki.com/news/2024/6/30…

I have this one in my book bag for summer holiday reading. I would never have found it if I hadn’t taken out a Book-ish 📚 Non-Fiction subscription. The surprise book is my favourite part of the month now!

Silverstone helicopters 🚁 running backwards and forwards all morning so far. It’s been non-stop helicopters for weeks … Download, Taylor Swift concert run in London, Champions League final, Wimbledon ramping up, D-Day commemoration … we can always tell an event day.

Absolutely awful article about the abuse Alice Munro’s daughter was subjected to. I will never understand how a parent can be so broken that they respond this way. CW: Sexual abuse archive.ph/OfPoX

I’ve seen lots of comments recently saying ‘It’s been an honour and a privilege’ to do a job someone applied for & was paid to do. That’s problematic. The honour & privilege should be your employer’s. Stop romanticising paid work - it means employers get away with stuff

See also ‘We are part of the XYZ Family’. Nope, your family is your family. Workplaces that usurp that term to get you to invest more than you are paid to do in their work are also the same ones who will drop you at once if it’s financially better for them. With no remorse.

Ngama has been in the UK since she was 11. She can't return to Cameroon where homosexuality is illegal. GB Boxing backed her visa application, to no avail. Heartwarming that the Refugee team has won a medal, heartbreaking how her story reveals the cruelty of the UK refugee system

Question: anyone in the UK with a GC set up for CH4, CO2 and N2O and can analyse samples (12ml Exetainers) v quickly (i.e. < 2 weeks)? My usual lab hit a backlog and got some deadlines approaching.

Normalise children at conferences … it makes a change from adults behaving like children. Honestly, no workplace or event ever suffered from being more inclusive of parents and carers, and we shouldn’t want to be part of academic networks that are happy to exclude them.
