Watching #TheRepairShop with my late father used to be the highlight of our afternoons: what a wonderful programme. Now, I’m not sure what gives me more pleasure: watching the show or reading the tweets of new fans discovering its delights!

At last, back under the dome for the First Night of the BBC Proms . This year, as well as the customary selfies of me and my companions (I’m here alone tonight, mind), I’m going to include some ‘On This Day’ reminiscences from past visits... #BBCProms

My first BBC Proms memory is from this date in 1981, the first season I attended frequently. On 19th July that year, the Philharmonia were on the platform conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini in two ‘classic’ symphonies - a true ‘bread and butter’ concert.
