Career Advice: Find your people. Then find a way to work with them. Tonight we celebrated the end of the year. It was a reminder that I found my people. I am telling you - Georgia State University • School of Public Health has some of the best people and I am proud I get to work alongside them.

I was staring at this "latest issue" Table of Contents email from AIDS Journal wondering why they are still addressing all letters to "Sir," Finally clicked an article to see if I was misinterpreting it.... Yup. Apparently I got an automated email with the TOC from 1988.

I was debating taking the afternoon off, but felt like I should do some busy work instead. Then the power went out in my neighborhood. I took it as a sign and went outside with a book before anything happened to stop me (like the fact that power restored within 20 minutes).

What’s something that scared you this week? I’ll go first. My son went missing from his bedroom around 9:30 one night. We eventually found him in the backyard, completely unbothered by the dark, playing with the dog. Apparently he quietly crawled through the dog door to escape.

public health has an incredible capacity to write about death & illness without it being painful to read, or about resilience & community without it being joyous, celebratory, or at least making the reader smile. if i could give public health students one piece of advice:

TFW you’re reading the supplementary appendix to understand the methods and the authors reference the supplementary appendix of a different paper

Another year, another batch of MPH applications to review - and I'm still hating SOPHAS for asking recommenders to rate applicants on "intellectual ability" with letters of recommendation. I can't imagine this scale isn't influenced by racism, sexism and classism.

I'm submitting a K01 application to a mechanism which requires a Community Advisory Board as part of the project. Does anyone have experience with this? Should I describe the plan in the Research Strategy section? Somewhere else?

This is the big one: Kennedy is firing the entire #ACIP in a move he says is needed to restore confidence in vaccines. "It scares me to think of what’s ahead,” Mike Osterholm of CIDRAP told me. statnews.com/2025/06/09/rfk…

I haven’t been on here in years but I’ll be in Boston next week for #SER2025 and want to know who else will be attending— anyone want to meet up for chat, coffee or lunch one day?

My resignation letter from CDC. Dear Dr. Houry, I am writing to formally resign from my position as Director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), effective August 28, 2025, close of business.

DrDemetre Thank you for your dedication and integrity. Your letter should alarm every Republican Congress member who has watched the unfolding disaster in meek, cowering silence. Does anyone in Washington care? So far the answer is no.
