Such a shame that Michael Whelan was never commissioned to illustrate Conan. The closest we got was Kull and the Barbarians 1 and 2, from 1975. #FantasyArt

If Chainmail included the Weapon vs. Armor tables to offset the fact that all weapons do the same damage, then was Gary remiss in having AD&D stack variable weapon damage with a similar table? Something I'm pondering after watching Harmony Ginger's discussion with Dominic Martyne.

"Swords of Mars" by Michael Whelan (1979) Michael quite harshly criticizes his own work on this one, stating that it's his least favorite John Carter cover, lamenting the heavy use of yellow and wishing he could redo the character poses. Still a great piece IMO! #FantasyArt

*record scratch, freeze frame* "Yep, that's me, hanging on a wall with a winged naked guy chewing on my ass. You're probably wondering how I got in this situation..."

Clark Ashton Smith's stories are totally wild. Sometimes the main character survives, sometimes they live happily ever after, sometimes they die heroically, and sometimes they do something like slip and fall into a bottomless pit and it says "and that he didn't plan for" and then
