As part of our Olympic Spirit week, today’s stem challenge was focussed around Olympic curling and the force of friction! ⁦KCA⁩

This week we had fun getting messy, working through some colourful spring art stations outdoors, while learning about Holi, The Festival of Colours! KCA

Yesterday we recognized International Transgender Day of Visibility. We read a great book with a fabulous message, and followed up with a wonderful conversation. Language Ss used included: kindness, acceptance, expression, unique, choice. 💕 KCA

We’ve been learning about shapes and patterns in math. We applied our knowledge as we started to learn about Ramadan and looked at some examples of beautiful Islamic tile designs! KCA

Working hard on our research today, for our non-fiction writing! We’ve been creating headings, finding facts, recording jot notes! KCA

Last week we made Koinobori’s (Japanese windsocks)! Science, art, culture and FUN, all rolled into one! KCA

“Board Game Friday” for math today! So much fun we didn’t even notice we were learning! KCA

Today we began our writer’s notebook. We went on a nature walk to collect the first “seeds” for possible writing ideas in the future! Beautiful things were found all around us, using all of our senses! ⁦KCA⁩

We’ve been talking a lot about attributes and building our math vocabulary. Today we had a tough challenge to try to sort 3-D shapes by finding TWO ways that a group of shapes were alike. Some great observations and conversations! KCA

We were pretty excited for the annual Pumpkin Drop yesterday! Although our pumpkin didn’t survive the fall, our class demonstrated a lot of consideration in our design and we nailed the decor! KCA

Our first STEM challenge of the year was a kite design challenge, as a part of our exploitation of air and wind! So much fun! KCA

We experimented with the melting point of ice and the effects of salt, by going “ice fishing”! It was impossible to catch an ice cube with just a string, but once we added salt, we had plenty of catches! It seemed like magic, but science was at play here! ⁦KCA⁩

Today we harvested some of our home grown micro greens, grown from pea seeds! We’re leaving our broccoli micro greens for a few more days of growth. Thanks for teaching us how to grow and harvest these tasty, healthy treats Terra Tonics Farm! ⁦⁦KCA⁩
