This is the face of prolonged distress. These are the faces of #Syria. 👇 Millions face an uncertain fate after 12 years of conflict, skyrocketing food prices, fuel shortage, and now the devastating effects of earthquakes. Syria needs assistance like never before.

I just visited north-west #Syria. The depth of suffering is difficult to convey. I sat with parents who told me about losing their children and showed me their precious photos. I have rarely been so heartbroken.

A child’s #nutrition determines their whole future & the consequences of malnutrition can be irreversible That’s why World Food Programme is distributing nutrition items to #earthquake-affected children at collective shelters in #Syria.

The children in this picture do not know of a #Syria outside 12 years of compounding crises. Imagine their childhoods. Imagine their futures. Help us provide the essential support and nutrition these children need to thrive: bit.ly/3jNYbsO

The reality is that food security is the crisis of modern times – and leaders are not going to have enough $$$ to fund every need. They’ve got to prioritize what is critical to stability on earth, programs that will lay the foundation for peace.

'The cracks in the walls of our house were so large the sunlight came through them', tells us Fatima from #Syria. Like many impacted by the quakes & sheltering, WFP's food assistance helps her secure food for herself & her 4 children until she figures out the next steps.

An average monthly wage in #Syria currently covers about a quarter of a family’s food needs. After 12 years of conflict, 12 million people face acute hunger. And now a funding crunch threatens to curtail WFP assistance, exactly when people need it most. bit.ly/3YPSZ6e

Truly heartbreaking talking with vulnerable families assisted by @wfp. They have been through so so much. Tenacious people wondering if ever they might find hope. They want to stand again on their own feet. Will the world help them?

This is 12 seconds of: • War • Hunger • Drought • Earthquakes • Economic devastation ...but the #SyriaCrisis isn't 12 seconds — it's 12 years.

Ghinwa used to study at this school, the same school her mother went to as a child, but now they're using one of its classrooms as a home after they lost theirs in the earthquakes. 12 years of crisis upon crisis in #Syria have left little room for children to be children.

I spent an average Syrian monthly salary in a shop where World Food Programme cash beneficiaries shop. It got me…a bit less food than a Canadian family with teenage boys might eat in one meal. Plus some dates.

Leaders around the world have understood the power of food security. Had we not received unprecedented funding to fight this historic hunger crisis, we would’ve had famines and destabilization of nations. It is $$$ well spent to bring people hope in times of hopelessness!

Nawal from #Syria is double displaced. Years ago, she fled conflict in Idlib to Aleppo. Now she had to flee her home in Aleppo due to the earthquakes. Her family is sharing a school classroom with other 2 families. The school has been turned into a collective shelter.

📷This is not just bread, this is hope! Follow Bassel to two bakeries in #Syria & see the difference World Food Programme restoration of food systems is making on communities’ lives 🙏 Each $1 invested in rehabilitation of bakeries can reduce the annual cost of WFP food assistance by $3.

🚨 2.4 million children are out of school in #Syria. Many of them are working to support their struggling families. This situation needs to change. ➡️ World Food Programme provides school meals to 500,000 children to help them stay in school and pursue their dreams.

Deeply mourning the tragic loss of lives in #Gaza, and the lives of 35 of our dear UNRWA colleagues amongst them. World Food Programme stands in solidarity with the brave colleagues doing everything in their power, every day, to support families in the most difficult of times.
