'Being against racism and sexism was good, but being in favour of sterilising children was taking things a bit far' is going to be one of the excuses of those who are complicit in this medical scandal, as though they're merely guilty of kindness overreach.

Redefining an oppressed class of people to include members of the oppressor class does not liberate or benefit those who are oppressed. Pretending men can be women too is the very definition of a luxury belief. The consequences aren’t felt by men or wealth-protected women.

We don’t address racism by pretending white people can be black, nor is ableism solved by giving able-bodied people wheelchairs, so why are women and girls supposed to applaud their male imitators, centre them in language and hand over rights their foremothers fought for? 3/X

As wonderful as it is to see this in the Globe and Mail, it must be said that Canada doesn't need to do a careful years-long review of youth gender medicine. That's already been done, and the conclusion is clear: the evidence is remarkably weak and this experiment must end now.

This opinion piece by Robyn Urback would have been excellent if it had appeared a month ago but it only mentions the groundbreaking final report of the Cass Review in one sentence near the end of the story. This is burying the lede with a vengeance.
