Good opportunity to practice birds in flight shots at the NOA’s Redwell Marsh with Avocet and Lapwing. Holme Bird Obs

Large influx of Painted Lady and Red Admiral on North Norfolk coast today. This one on the Alexanders at Thornham Harbour. Butterfly Conservation 🦋 BC Norfolk BC Warwickshire

I have become fascinated by the food items that the waders at the NOA’s Redwell Marsh reserve are probing out of the mud around the small pool. There are currently 4 Greenshank and 3 Common Sandpiper present as well as Snipe, Avocet, Redshank and Lapwing. Holme Bird Obs

Spooked by a microlight going over, this Greenshank (one of five) turned into a ‘roadrunner’ this evening at NOA’s Redwell Marsh reserve! Holme Bird Obs

‘These four Walls that surround me’. The Wall is by far the most numerous butterfly species we have encountered on the North Norfolk coast in all habitats. Butterfly Conservation 🦋 BC Norfolk BC Warwickshire

As the water level recedes on the NOA’s Redwell Marsh Reserve it becomes suitable for mud feeders like this Little Ringed Plover. Holme Bird Obs

A productive local morning walk around Baddesley Ensor produced 6 Marbled White, a new Dingy Skipper site, Peacock larval webs, 4 Large Skipper, 2 Small Tortoiseshell and this, our first Six-spot Burnet of the year. BC Warwickshire

Does anybody know what is going on here? Four of the larvae in this Peacock butterfly nest found today had pale spikes and brown heads! BC Warwickshire Butterfly Conservation 🦋

Several visits to the garden today from this Hummingbird Hawk-moth. Nectaring on Valerian, Everlasting Wallflower and this Verbena. BC Warwickshire

Fourteen Orange-tailed Clearwings to pheromone trap in our Baddesley Ensor garden yesterday morning. So far it is still the only Clearwing species that we have been able to attract. BC Warwickshire

Managed to fit in our Wider Countryside Butterfly Survey square, in and around Grendon Wood, before the rain came. Best sighting was this Purple Hairstreak. Also had our first Gatekeeper of the year on Baddesley Common today. BC Warwickshire Butterfly Conservation 🦋
