If you're a South African student looking for a paid Dec & Jan internship at an AI start-up, look no further than NOSIBLE AI. We've got a few projects open: 🧵 P.S. If you think your network might be interested, please do me a huge solid and RT this thread 🙏🏻

I'm reading this book by Nick Sonnenberg, and the way he presents the CPR framework for gaining efficiency is common sense, but it's effective cause Nick makes it practical e.g. directly talking about how to make slack, email, WhatsApp, etc effective.

"Simplifying Transformer Blocks" ranks easily among my favorite research papers that I've read this year. Here, the authors look into how the standard transformer block, essential to LLMs, can be simplified without compromising convergence properties and downstream task

What's the biggest data engineering challenge you've faced recently? For me, it's been data quality and observability for custom pipeline. Would love to hear your experiences. #DataEngineering

Very thought provoking discussion by Zach and response by Santiago on data team career progression and choices. It's great learning from your valuable experiences

Once again, linear regression saves the day. It's remarkable how many times I've tried a whole cohort of more complex models that "should" perform better on a given task, only to realize that linear regression was the best choice all along 🫣

The Gemini era is here. Thrilled to launch Gemini 1.0, our most capable & general AI model. Built to be natively multimodal, it can understand many types of info. Efficient & flexible, it comes in 3 sizes each best-in-class & optimized for different uses blog.google/technology/ai/…

Every time someone says some model beats some benchmark, I want to send them this. Evaluation is very nuanced and very hard! huggingface.co/blog/evaluatin…

Enjoyed the 'What's Possible with AI?' video, thanks Steven Brunton. Exciting space! youtu.be/NQkSH_CBPq8 Robotics is hard, esp. based on learning systems or ML/AI. Curious to know: Are there fields where ML/AI is being reliably applied to physical systems? Aeronautics?Petrochem?

Reminds me of Sunday school, back in the day. My cousin was asked why he submitted 2 copies of the same essay. Turns out the young girl sitting next to us copied his essay verbatim, including my cousin's name - Sedius.😅 How will educators deal with gen AI use?

My hope and prediction for 2024 is that we lose some of the hype around LLMs and start using them in normcore ways for the stuff they’re actually good at (summarization, classification, etc).
