An enjoyable opening ceremony for the DCU Alumni Career Mentoring Programme 24/25 yesterday. It was great to hear the stories of previous mentors/mentees of the initiative, and I am looking forward to playing a part in this year’s programme.

It was great to see the Grain 4 Lab project featured on the RTƉ One series ā€˜Heated’ recently. Many thanks to the production team for taking the time to showcase our current research mission. For those interested, it can be watched on the RTE player here: rte.ie/player/series/…

Team Ireland had a fantastic time at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) in Bucharest these past few days. Truly inspired by the talent of the next generation of scientists. Huge thanks to the organisers for an incredibly memorable event.

10 years+ since we shared this building as PhD students! Great to catch up with Prof. Pavle Mocilac and hear about his research in Lanzhou University on radiation therapy in the series of talks he delivered this week at Dublin City University.

New paper from Brian Freeland and colleagues I had the pleasure to contribute to that examines the optimisation of laser-based methods for nanoparticle production. Available now at mdpi.com/2227-9717/13/2…

A very engaging session on concussion in sport at TCD Genetics & Microbiology earlier today. Great to hear from leading experts in the field, and the multifaceted approach being discussed towards improving player welfare in Ireland

A great closing ceremony for the 24/25 DCU Mentorship Programme this evening. Once again, being involved in this programme proved incredibly rewarding, and it was a pleasure to have worked with my mentees over the course of the year. Looking forward to the 25/26 launch already.

Fantastic to see DCU Science and Health and DCU School of Biotechnology students Niall Ashfield and Malha Muhammed recognised for their efforts of engagement with staff, students, and wider communities at the recent #DCUPresidentAwards. Richly deserved.

An intensive but really fun final two days of training with our #IrEOES team representatives, courtesy of the Schools of Biotechnology, Chemical Sciences, and Physical Sciences of DCU Science and Health. All are eager and enthusiastic for the event in Zagreb next week!

Still reflecting on a busy but rewarding week at #EOES 2025. Huge congrats to both Irish teams on their bronze wins - well deserved! The real prize, though, was the experiences had. Huge thanks to the organisers for their hard work and the excellent programme they delivered.

Always an amazing time had at SciFest with the 2025 event no exception! Blown away by the creativity, curiosity, and confidence of the students with their respective projects that were on display at Dublin City University. The future is in great hands!
