Shout out to community partner Algonquin College for teaming up with @RCDSB at Opening Doors to Future Opportunities. Gr 7 & 8 students from across the county enjoyed hands-on learning, & parents became more informed on how to support transitions to high school and beyond 👍🏼

A huge & positive achievement: Ont 's high school grad rate grew from 68% in 2004 (after 8 yrs of Harris) to 86% in 2017. @ConfBoardofCda model suggests it will go back to 82% with funding cuts, causing $3.8b in fiscal & social losses over 20 yrs. These cuts will cost us OSSTF Communications

This needs to happen for students and their parents to experience the long-term sense of security that education demands. #SelfReg

Today is the birthday of John Dewey, an early proponent of experiential learning. Rejecting the idea of education as the rote memorization of facts, he argued that learning is interactive and that students should have a role in constructing their own learning.
