In 1981, 12 young men in Bradford were arrested for preparing to defend their community from fascists. 4 decades on, I spoke to them about their trial & the solidarity that helped secure their freedom. The Bradford 12 case was a pivotal moment in British legal history.🧵

The number of people forced to flee from war in Sudan has now surpassed 8.5 million. An appalling number.
They're now internally displaced, sheltering in Sudan, or refugees abroad. 'Thousands are crossing borders daily as if the emergency had started yesterday,' says UNHCR.

It's hard to explain how important is - after nearly 50 years, finally this story is being told on British TV. It's shocking and painful to watch, but it happened. It's British history we should know. On now Channel 4 commissioned shaminder nahal

Sharing this for a second time as I'm now fully into it. My family grew up in and around tea estates and have links to Calcutta, so this felt very emotional from the first episode. More history I had no idea about!

‘Three Million’. Essential listening on the Bengal Famine, presented by Kavita Puri. Balanced and non-judgmental but no less a devastating account of British colonial policy & society.
