Just like El Geneina, the alarm bells were sounded way in advance. But what did the international community do? They sat on their hands while the Masalit community was being slaughtered in their thousands
Now El Fashir is besieged...North Darfur is a tinderbox

I’m in the The Globe and Mail ringing alarm bells on unfolding RSF siege of El Fasher city - home to hundreds of thousands of civilians and displaced people. Situation deteriorating rapidly and the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people hang in balance.

From MSF today: 'We have responded to 3 mass casualty events at South Hospital in El Fasher over the past week and treated over 100 wounded patients. There is also a catastrophic malnutrition crisis in Zamzam camp that requires a massive scale-up in the humanitarian response.'

One of Darfur's biggest cities, El Fasher, is now a 'kill box', analysts say. The city is under a tightening siege by RSF forces, with its escape routes cut off. Fuel and water are running out. And the RSF has committed massacres in other Darfur cities.

When the RSF siege of Al-Geneina started, alarm bells were sounded to no avail and the final death toll of the RSF-led massacre was estimated at 10,000 - 15,000.

When the RSF siege of Madani began - again, no intervention and masses were tortured, killed, raped and robbed.
