I think my new favorite feeling is calling a consultant, giving them the HPI, telling them the work up you’ve done so far, and hearing them say, “You did what I would have done.” 🥹

Today I worked my first shift as a PGY-2. But I also delivered a fetus at 18w3d with a heartbeat and had to pronounce him when he passed 38 minutes later. I don’t have a word dark and sour enough for the way this moment feels.

Cut through a tattoo going skin to baby in less than two minutes today and was so proud of myself for perfectly reapproximating it in the skin closure and when I told the patient, she said, “Oh, I was planning to have that removed anyway.” 🙃

Had another patient who was delivering an 18-week fetus with a heartbeat but the difference was today we had to stop and figure out what amount of healthcare we were able to offer her. I was wrong; this is the dark and sour moment.

I did my 200th vaginal delivery last night so that’s kind of neat.

A non-medical friend recently asked me to describe clinic. I told her to imagine you have 20 meetings in a day, half of them new clients with urgent needs. Each requires your best self. You are late for at least 10 of them. You must prepare a report and deliverables for each one.

I was bumming reading tweets about nationals and feeling sad I’m not playing ultimate right now but then I called a STAT c-section and went skin to baby in 35 seconds and realized the trade off is actually pretty okay. Emergency c-section is the new game-to-go. 🙃

The only downside to logging into your Spotify account on the OR computer to play a patient’s musical request is that sometimes, long after you’ve left, when you’re listening to music in your home, the song abruptly changes the and volume dramatically increases. 🙃

Our family used “number of Wishbone episodes” to measure the duration of activities growing up and I can hardly bear how charming it was to listen to this obituary for the dog that made it all happen. 🥹 podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mob…

If you had told me when I was 14 and falling in love with Dashboard Confessional that one day I’d be listening to the same songs while doing robotic surgery simulation, I’m not sure what I would have said, but it definitely wouldn’t have been, “No doubt!”
