Today, the Senate finally did the right thing and answered my calls to repeal the 1864 abortion ban. I’m going to sign it into law. And we are going to get rid of this awful ban once and for all.

The 1864 abortion ban was passed by 27 men, before women even had the right to vote. Now, almost 160 years later, I’m going to sign the bill that will repeal it.

With the stroke of my pen, the 1864 abortion ban is about to OFFICIALLY become a thing of the past.

Since the Dobbs decision leaked two years ago today, I’ve been calling for the legislature to repeal the 1864 abortion ban. Today, I’m so thrilled to have signed that bill into law.

Repealing this 1864 ban is a huge step in the right direction. But the fight isn’t over. This November, Arizonans can enshrine abortion in our state’s constitution –– and protect our rights once and for all.

Come November, Arizonans will have the opportunity to defeat anti-choice Republican legislators and codify the right to abortion in our state Constitution. It’s time to give the decision back to women — where it belongs.
