Love a Monday meeting that involves walking through the breathtaking #WestminsterHall, and seeing where the late Queen Elizabeth II lay in state nearly two years ago.

On this day #OTD 5 years ago, I said goodbye to the staff accommodation ChartwellNT, #Churchill's country home, where I'd lived since 2013. Even though I'm still there every day for work, I do miss waking up early to watch the sun rise from this glorious perspective. ❀️

On this day 85 years ago, Britain declared war on Germany. This photo of #Churchill was taken that day, leaving his London home, before making his way to Whitehall. Find out more about his last hours of peace in the epilogue of 'Churchill's Citadel'. πŸ“”βœŒοΈ linktr.ee/katherinecarter

Did you know that, of all the paintings of Winston Churchill, there are only 2 that were done *during* #WW2, whereby the artist had direct access to him in order to capture his likeness. This is one of them, painted by Frank Salisbury, and is a particular favourite or mine.

β€˜This morning’s service at St Paul’s [Winston's funeral] was the most perfectly organised; and deeply moving... I am more sure than I am of future life that, but for him, I should not be sitting here a free man.’ - Letter from Sir Alan β€˜Tommy’ Lascelles (pictured below) to John

Portrait of #Churchill by John Singer Sargent (1925), though it wasn't Churchill's favourite... "I was hard put to it ro reconcile truth and politeness. I wanted to point out the awful concavity of my right cheek. However, one must not look a gift portrait in the mouth" - WSC ✌️
