I get it: The antisemitism rippling through--*but not defining*--protests feels, if even a concern, like a tiny sideshow to the real horror of genocide in Gaza. Yes. Yes, *and.* Don't fall for the binary. That's what Mike Johnson's praying for. Netanyahu, too.

& lefty friends & comrades new to the whole Christian Zionist thing: They've been at this a long time. They know how to weaponize unforced errors. Insisting that there's NO antisemitism, besides being a purity narrative (more of a fascist thing, anyway), is a slow-pitch softball.

This is especially a message for my fellow Jews w/ good hearts but little info on how Christian 'Zionism' works: Think of Christian Zionists as accelerationists: Ultimately, they want--they need, for their theology--war. They'll always encourage fascists like Netanyahu.

But despite my 20 years on this beat, I realize I missed something: Whole lotta folks--leftists, liberals, fellow Jews--don't realize that even when they perform concern, Christian nationalists are *never* any friend of any of Jews, anywhere, even the fascist ones.

I say this from 20 years of researching & eporting on the Right. I know how Christian 'Zionists' think. Scare quotes because if in service of either rapture theology or as pawn in war with far stronger Islam, it's not really any kind of Zionism, it's Christian fundamentalism.

A few of Mike Johnson's favorite things: liberals who support crackdowns; leftists who insist, against evidence, that there is ZERO antisemitism anywhere; news orgs that focus on higher ed, Johnson's foe, instead of Israeli crimes; Israeli crimes.

US fascists are having a field day. American Jews (I'm one) troubled by real antisemitism w/in *but not definitive* of protest panic & support anti-democratic crackdowns. Protesters who know their own honest good faith insist there's not even a trace--& again, US fascists gloat.
