Great so many care about public transit! Thrilled re: more $ for for max equity, environ and eco benefits. But, “Reform must come first'=unfunded mandate. Nothing has convinced me that new board would guarantee 'safety, frequency and reliability for riders first'.

*This* is why they are pushing to get rid of tenure all over. It ain’t got nothing to do with labor market inefficiencies. It’s power.

Your ability to speak and publish and write using evidence is dangerous for those who want to govern us with lies, myths, and violence.

A parallel between public transit & public education? Elites have more appetite for claiming inefficiencies & promoting reform/consolidation (can b unfunded mandate) than addressing the bigger problem: inadequate investments in public goods (not that all is well w/CTA rn).

Probably reading into it too much, but cta customer satisfaction survey has a question about bus-only lanes...is momentum/interest in bus rapid transit growing? Hope so!

Great deep dive on sidewalk conditions & funding! Sidewalk conditions are critical 4 equity & safety. At every govt level, way more $ 4 roads for cars instead of sidewalks for so many who walk/roll, access transit. And always appreciate a note on the limits of using 311 data

Unfortunately he ducked the question. Secretary Pete Buttigieg went right into fixing past damage. It isn't his fault, but the IIJA fully allows projects that cause the same damage this project is fixing. It is this administration's fault that they pretend that isn't true.

Senate Republicans (and 3 Democrats!) are aggressively fighting a rule that states track GHG emissions from highways. There's no penalty for not doing so; it's in no way linked to project selection. So telling about national + state transportation policy. route-fifty.com/infrastructure…

Stated CDOT goals re sustainability, complete streets, Vision zero, hierarchy that centers ped/roll/transit, etc. continue to NOT show up in design & budget decision (like when engineering norms lead to bike lane removal for left hand turn on S Halsted). We can do better!
