Almost submitted a form with my preferred name as Glroia. Hi, I’m the problem, it’s me. (Apparently I prefer to be known as a phonotactic nightmare.)

I went to submit an abstract 15 minutes before the deadline (11:59 PM EST) and the portal was already closed. I’m sure there’s a lesson here… but that’s still so disappointing.

Someone ban me from checking the weather forecast every 5 minutes. I need to be revising this chapter…

An additional detail about the UBC break-in: all letter mail was also stolen and none was recovered. If you were expecting mail from your bank, the CRA, or NSLSC (student loans) - the risk may be higher than stated here?

Did the CLA stop offering student travel awards? All that is mentioned is the new merit awards, but those don’t mention travel for the conference.

I had an abstract accepted for a poster and 1 of the 2 reviews mentioned they don’t know the area well enough to rate it. I guess that could have saved me from a rejection, OR it could have been the reason it wasn’t accepted as a talk. (I’m glad the reviewer said that tho!)

This probably would surprise no one.

Don't forgot, editing is part of writing. Reading is part of writing. Lying facedown on the floor, worrying those around you, is part of writing.

I love teaching. My (fantastic) TA sent me an email that said "reminder to look up chinchillas" and I shouldn't be laughing this much because I asked for this. (It's now on a list under "fake faces" and "iPad babies".)
