It’s 2023, and I’m shocked we even have to say this… slavery did NOT BENEFIT Black people. This country was built on our backs — America benefitted from Black people. ✊🏾 📷: IG/valeisha

Families with loved ones in jail or prison in #Massachusetts are paying about $14 million/year on phone calls. Families go into debt while companies get $. The state can make these calls free RIGHT NOW. It has the money. The leg just needs to authorize it: bostonglobe.com/2023/07/25/opi…

In 1954, American tap dancer Arthur Duncan made his debut on the Betty White show. Betty White faced criticism for featuring a Black performer, but she responded with, "I'm sorry. Live with it." She even gave Duncan more airtime. However, shortly after, her show was canceled.

When someone dies of an overdose in jail, it's typically after just one day of incarceration. Intoxication deaths in jails increased 381% between 2000-2018. Jails are no place to recover from a substance use disorder. States should invest in community health centers instead.
