The problem with the idea that they “won’t get away with this” is that it assumes there’s a line they won’t cross, that there are anti-majoritarian measures – violence and coercion, specifically – they consider too radical. But there’s absolutely no indication that’s the case.

I hope this is wrong; I fear it is right. “With the end of Roe, the US edges closer and closer to civil war” | Stephen Marche | The Guardian theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

At a MINIMUM, the Senate should get rid of the filibuster to codify Roe v Wade into law. Worried Manchin, Sinema, Colllins and Murkowski won’t support it? Make them take a vote and go on the record choosing minority rule over women’s rights.

As always, people who think the Court is bound by its own logic are not being realistic about how comfortable conservatives are with their own hypocrisy.

For me, ketchup dripping down the walls of the White House because Trump had a temper tantrum and threw his lunch is a defining image of his presidency, as is him trying to strangle a Secret Service agent. thedailybeast.com/days-before-ja…

Let's just say that if you're the National Security Advisor, and you get to a point at which you're worried that saying, under oath, whether you support the US constitution could put you in legal jeopardy, you've made some regrettable life choices along the way.

A 🧵 So I am pretty upset that a narrative that the administration wasn’t prepared, isn’t doing enough has been floated by bullhorn politicians & some media so a thread of actions being taken by Biden/Harris led by Vice President JD Vance Here goes

The Supreme Court has gone rogue. We are in a full-blown Constitutional crisis. Congress must act. And we must pressure Congress to act, while it still can. #TheMajority

We are witnessing a judicial coup in process. If the President and Congress do not restrain the Court now, the Court is signaling they will come for the Presidential election next. All our leaders - regardless of party - must recognize this Constitutional crisis for what it is.

Mr President, Leader Schumer, & Democratic Party: call for ending the filibuster, period. If you make clear that you will pass voting rights, expansion of women’s reproductive rights, living wages & universal health care, you’ll see the greatest midterm turnout in history.

What I feel is not a sense of doom but of urgency. An urgent need to educate & mobilize more people. I can’t feel hopeless when I know a better future is possible, especially if we let go of outdated systems that never served the majority of us from the start.

Here’s the closer to the dissent from Sotomayor, joined by Kagan and Jackson. The death penalty is a stain and the American legal system should be plunged into the depths of the sea.
