It’s often overlooked that MLK’s dream was divisive in his day. Resistance is not a signal of failure. It’s often a clue that you’re ahead of your time. Visions for change elicit opposition from defenders of the status quo. Rocking the boat is a precursor to progress.

Instructional leadership begins with relationships. Difficult conversations begin with relationships. Meetings begin with relationships. You name it, it begins with relationships.

Every child has a story; so does every adult. Lead with empathy.

Insecure leaders ridicule others. Secure leaders laugh at themselves. The ability to make fun of yourself opens the door to candor. It’s a mark of humility and a catalyst for learning. Great leaders take their work seriously, but they don't take themselves too seriously.

Being a principal is not about being the expert, it’s about empowering the experts.

Titles fade. Impact is forever.

There is nothing that any principal or school leader can do that is worth as much as a teacher who cares about their students and is passionate about seeing them succeed.
