I'm always amazed at what arcade bootleggers do. Take a bootleg Pengo pcb, do a rom socket mod to make 24 pin sockets into 28 pin, add a daughter board with a billion flying wires that intercepts the tile generator to add horizontal scrolling and voila Pac man Jr.

Protip #355 When you're repairing a spa heater for your parents (by replacing a corroded thermal switch that's gone open) don't leave your baggy of heatshrink on top of the spa cover that's been baking in the sun.

Argh. DB 011h in nasm assembler syntax is not DB 0011 binary. Silly error had me fooled for a few days. At least I can make progress now

Never really got on with the Wico command control. Probably because I'm left handed. Maybe time to rearrange the wires to rotate the joystick 90 degrees so the button is on the right. #c64

These two things are not the same. One is a weller DS103 and the other is a weller DS203. The one that fits a DS900 desolder iron won't fit a DS801 as the inner radius of the tube is slightly smaller. #FML

Toaplan Outzone repair. Looks like a bad sprite buffer ram. Piggy backing did nothing. The ram @ 11L data lines were floating. Checking other pins showed /WE floating also. Output from 20M AND gate was OK but was only getting to some ICs. Added wire to fix bad track.

RIP Archer Maclean. Such an interesting dude and a fellow arcade lover and fixer. Its a shame our paths didn't cross more often. I'll have a play of Dropzone and IK+ to remember him.

Fujitsu sux. Repair bootleg moon patrol pcb by replacing bad Fujitsu chips. Take video of it working. Leave burning in for 2 hours. Loose sprite and middle parallax layer. Replace more Fujitsu. Rinse and repeat. Or just shotgun all the Fujitsu chips with the same date codes?

Original IREM Moon Patrol had a glitch on the middle scroll layer.Changed 2 74ls283@4f&4h which improved it.Touching pin 1 of 4h made the glitch change.C68 is missing from Irem boards & manually added by Williams.Probably due to diffrnt 2732a timing. It should be across 1 and 14

IREM used 'security by obscurity' on Moon Patrol except the Dremel erased the wrong text. A 74ls275 Wallace Tree multiplier which unfortunately had the same IO pins as a 512x4 bprom making duplicating the function easy for bootleggers. http:/en.wikipedia.org/Wallace_tree
