Thks carlobrien for highlighting our campaign. The stress is horrendous & the anguish is real. The stories of our parents are so upsetting. Certain areas like D24,D12 are becoming the “go to” areas for autistic students as they have ASD classes & others areas like ours do not.

Zero #Autism Classes in Dublin 2 Dublin 4 Dublin 6 and only one class in Dublin 6w. #government needs to compel schools in these areas to open Autism Schools. Children with Autism need more than words. Raised the need for autism classes today with Toiseach. Involve Autism: D6/D6W & Surrounds.

10th Sept 1966 Donogh O’ Malley announced free Post Primary Ed. In our area not one of our large secondary schools has an ASD special class & there are only 14 ASD class places (full) for 6,500 primary pupils. His words ring true & our children are being failed by the state.

Update 37A process, 35 of the compelled schools are being visited to look at feasibility of opening an ASD special class. Q: Should NCSE not have done this BEFORE compelling schools? The process was not robust & as a result schools that have capacity were not compelled.

A sad evening. Ireland continues to be an outlier in not providing essential in-school support for students with complex needs who have suffered greatly. The developmental impact of school closures are and will be felt by our community for a long time. We need to find a solution

Sadly the voice of the child has been lost. Under Anne Rabbitte plan over 14,000 vulnerable adults have had their day services resumed. Forsa to their credit have facilitated their members in managing this. Why the difference for kids in specialized school settings?

Today has been challenging for the families of children with AEN who did not return to school. We must not lose sight of the fact many wonderful schools and teachers/SNAs want to return to school. Lets stay positive and support each other. #education #EqualityForAll
