There is an evacuation order for Westwood Hills subdivision, Upper Tantallon, NS due to ongoing multiple structure and forest fires. All residents in Westwood Hills ordered to evacuate. Comfort Centre is open at Black Point Community Centre, Black Point.

Update: the fire has now spread, and an evacuation order is now also issued for Yankeetown (Highland Park) subdivision, Hammonds Plains, in addition to evacuation ordered for Westwood Hills subdivision, Upper Tantallon.

Evacuation order has been extended to Haliburton Hills, Glen Arbour, Pockwock Rd, White Hills subdivision and Lucasville Rd all the way to Sackville Drive. Take your pets with you when you evacuate. Please check hfxgov for updates on opening centres or 311.

There is a provincewide ban on open fires because of dry conditions. The ban also applies to fires in provincial parks and private campgrounds and is in effect until further notice. #novascotia

This is a proactive warning in support of the hfxgov fire emergency response. Remember you cannot operate an aircraft or a drone within 9.3 km of wildfires. It is illegal, you could be impeding firefighting operations, and you could be subject to penalties.

Firefighters on scene include 52 from DNRR, 100 from Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) and nine from Department of National Defence (DND). 3 helicopters and one water bomber from Newfoundland and Labrador are on scene.

Hammonds Plains update: The fire is about four hectares in size and is 80 per cent contained. 10 volunteer/municipal firefighters are and two helicopters on scene.
