Senior Culinary Arts NAF chef Mohamed Turay doesn’t only have skills in the kitchen. Last week in his Georgetown University Street Law course, Mohamed squared off in a debate with his classmates.

Last week chefs from our Culinary Arts NAF academy and cadets from our JROTC program visited the DC Armory for a Job and Resource Fair.

Yesterday at Nationals Park, five of our Business Management NAF scholars had their 1st meeting for the 2024-25 Washington Nationals NatsPrep program! They had a delicious lunch, listened to an overview of the program, met their mentors, & took a tour of the ballpark.

Last weekend, two of our Business Management NAF scholars attended the SkillsUSA Region One Summit in Hershey, PA. Our scholars took part in various workshops and won the Region 1 Statesman Award!

Happy Gullah Geechee Heritage Month and Hoodoo Heritage Month. Today is a good day to get into one of the many legacies the ancestors gifted to the Gullah Geechee—stories about the Flying Africans—folktales of spiritual comfort and resistance.

#OTD in 1964, it was announced that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent campaign for civil rights in the United States. At 35 years of age, the Georgia-born minister was the youngest person ever to receive the award at the time.

.Roosevelt HS DC’s CTE programs are hosting 14 students and 2 teachers from Institute Saint-Dominique in Pau, France from October 18th to October 28th. While in DC, the group will shadow their Roosevelt student ambassadors in the morning and visit museums in DC in the afternoon.

Calling all Roosevelt HS DC CTE scholars! Please come to our 1st annual CTE Convocation at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Library on November 1st from 8:30am to 3:00pm. There will be giveaways, food, & workshops. Please see your CTE teacher to get a field trip form.

Today our Culinary Arts NAF Academy chefs began selling bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwiches to Roosevelt HS DC teachers and staff. Director Hipkins was one of their first customers!

Our SkillsUSA members are having a great time today during the 1st annual Pathways Day at Garnet-Patterson STAY. Our scholars had the opportunity to explore diverse CTE programs & career paths. One of the highlights was meeting SkillsUSA Executive Director Chelle Travis!

While a student at Morehouse College, I was selected to serve as a summer intern at The Carter Center. I will always cherish and appreciate meeting President Carter and the opportunities I had during and after my internship. Thank you President Carter. Rest well.

Today, we observe the life of Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who railed against racial injustice. King's widow, Coretta Scott King, continued his work, mobilizing the Poor People's Campaign (1968) and the federal holiday honoring King's life and legacy (1983).
