September is a busy month talk-wise. I'm delighted to be discussing whether we're in an over-communicating crisis and if so what to do about it HowTheLightGetsIn Festival howthelightgetsin.org/festivals/lond…

This week’s column: The post-Labor Day vibe. Are we starting to develop our own “rentrée” traditions, including longer summer breaks, or is it something else? Thanks to Julia Hobsbawm for always making time to share her insights! wapo.st/3ZmreGl

I mean: this is so major and the fact that a 17 year old kid has been arrested for the hacking makes it more so: our systems are not secure are they? The list of what's been compromised is pretty alarming.

I think I liked work so much even as a young woman because here is a photo of me in my very early twenties with a brown briefcase which I still have to this day - it symbolised work for me. The earrings?Gone.

THREAD ON WHY WE WON'T ALL GO BACK TO THE OFFICE Funny how times change - or don’t. Here we are, approaching five years since the pandemic, and the teleconferencing tools which burst into our daily lives have become settled here. The Teams, The Zooms - and the Owl - have nested

Another milestone moment in this story which has moved well into the mainstream now and quite rightly in my opinion. Even The Guardian is covering. It began with Tortoise Paul Caruana Galizia Rachel Johnson I say my own experience in episode 5

Rewatched my brilliant cousin Professor Iain Hutchison's TED Talks from 2010 about the face and what he calls the 5 minute rule: that initially a handsome face is more trusted than say one disfigured by injury or disease: but after 5 minutes ..watch youtu.be/l5ZJ6bK1EIc

When I started to write The Nowhere Office at the end of 2021 quite a few people said oh no, we will live and work as normal again when this lousy war with Covid is over. And of course everything changed. Give it another 18 months for a new normal.

I love this letter from the UN in 1956 thanking my mother for her service as a secretary not least because "Anyone who has been working in Personnel knows how boring the routine can become ". Three quarters of a century later you still need "intelligent assistance" from a human

I mean: it has come to this that Jonathan Freedland who epitomises the good anguished soulful sensible Jewish writer has left The Jewish Chronicle as have many others. Jake Wallis Simons and his bias and decisions have brought disgrace on the community. Plain sight always comes out in the end.

Ooh. "The Narrative Cycle". Americans so often capture the zeitgeist before the rest of us. They just toss out these terms and bam. Obvious.
