Our publication out today shows the Lord Howe population of Flesh-footed Shearwater is in recovery. We used novel spatial patterns during the survey to test whether proximity to road or human habitation was still influencing population dynamics. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Heart-BREAKING NEWS πŸ’” Our team confirms 1st death of a #CriticallyEndangered ADULT #Tristanalbatross caused by #invasive mice. The female was the 2nd oldest breeder of the species known & leaves behind a chick to be raised alone by the remaining parent: bit.ly/2S9fMNU

Another great study using biologgers to link contaminant levels with seabird movement, led by Akiko Shoji Shannon Whelan & many others. tl;dr: seabirds can carry mercury long distances and deposit in terrestrial ecosystems. authors.elsevier.com/c/1c~IczLNSYJfV

πŸ†•An amazing collaborative work led by BirdLife reveals a major seabird hotspot in the North Atlantic high seas used by up to 5 million birds! This area is now being considered as a Marine Protected Area – this would make it the first high seas MPA identified from tracking data!

The Arctic Skua is the UK’s fastest-declining seabird, with > 80% lost since 1986. At #WSC3 today, BTO Scotland’s Liz Humphreys Liz Humphreys will present GPS data that show Arctic Skuas have begun to forage further from their breeding colonies #seabirds #BTOScience #TeamSkua

Excited to present our work "Foraging range scales with seabird colony size" in Symposium 3 - Unravelling fundamental processes in seabird ecology: The role of multi-colony studies III starting at 00:15 UTC. But, I think most of my co-authors will already beπŸ›Œ! #TearmAuk #WSC3

At CWW2022, Christopher Pollock presents rich data set on individual foraging site fidelity (IFSF) in gannets built into IBM to inform #offshorewind effects on #seabirds. He nicely describes ways in which it arises: visual detection, private information and public information. CWW2022

1) I'm happy to share our latest paper published in Environmental Pollution. We examined potential effects of perfluoroalkyl acids on thyroid hormones & fitness-associated traits in thick-billed murres, an #Arctic #seabird experiencing #climate change. authors.elsevier.com/a/1euEczLNSc7F…
