For years I've been active on a language exchange app, where I chat with Russian speakers who want to learn English. I've made an offer on that app to try to help find jobs for those fleeing the region who are in CS or programming. I'll post calls for openings in this thread 🧵

"Fascism will not pass" = discrediting the Russian armed forces🤡 The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow fined Anna Krechetova 50,000 rubles under Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses because of a single picket with such a poster.

I'm heartbroken to hear that my friend and colleague Eelco Visser has passed away. Eelco made many contributions to programming languages, including meta-languages, tools, theory, and DSLs. His warmth and leadership enhanced OOPLSA and many other communities. We will miss him.

Сходил в гости на подкаст для аналитиков данных: продавал там Джулию и немножко рассказал про исследования в области языков программирования… t.me/noml_digest/372

I've been trying to imagine solutions to the ever growing reviewer shortage threatening to forever break peer review. I might have found one. Thoughts? medium.com/bits-and-behav…

Does anybody adhere to the ACM list of approved packages for their submissions (authors.acm.org/proceedings/pr…)? It still doesn't seem to include any packages for inference rules...

Not many things went the way I imagined, and I can hardly put my feelings into words. I definitely wouldn't be able to get to this point without so many good people and plenty of luck.

If anyone is interested in listening to my thesis defense (and maybe asking questions!), it will start in 50 minutes on Zoom. You can get the Zoom link either in this Telegram post: t.me/arpel/319 or by messaging me here or a.pelenitsyn @ gmail.com

Got extremely lucky with POPL this year: thorough reviews, and the reviewers asked all the right questions. Really glad to have had such a positive experience, especially after many tough final months of my PhD.

Our ICS'24 paper "Arkade: k-Nearest Neighbor Search With Non-Euclidean Distances using GPU Ray Tracing" was nominated for the best paper award -- good job Durga and everybody! ics2024.github.io/paper.html#ses… It's a new field to me, but it's so exciting what you can do with GPUs today!..

As the author of this PDF, it's been interesting seeing people guess at the rationale behind its design. However, the rationale had nothing to do with theory vs practice, and everything to do with pragmatically coping with an unaccommodated disability in academia. (1/16)
