Totally agree . Readers do not emerge , especially those in specialist schools . All learners need to be taught the alphabetic code systematically John Walker, Sounds-Write is the best. My experience teaching KS3 learners with John Walker, Sounds-Write was mind blowing .

It’s not useful reciting tables . The learner needs to know their tables so well that they can answer what ever the table .. eg 6X4 .. 9X7 .. 8X8 , 9X 5 . Etc

Mini white boards are invaluable . Each learner proudly displays their own work whilst the teacher can easily scan who needs more practise .. I love them . Each child feels included . Thoroughly recommend
