Ronnel Arambulo is a fisherfolk leader from Pamalakaya. He gets up at 4am to prepare to fish for tilapia in Laguna Bay. There will be days when he goes home without any fish caught. He was stood against reclamation projects that threaten the livelihood of fisherfolk communities.

Congresswoman France Castro was a public school teacher for 25 years. She taught Math. She experienced being a contractual substitute teacher for 4 years, along with the uncertainty of not knowing when she will be paid next. She organized her fellow teachers by forming a union.

Congresswoman Arlene Brosas of Gabriela was a teacher in UP who also worked with children. As a child care worker, she witnessed the harsh conditions children in poor communities face, including a child who died of malnutrition. Babae, bata at bayan ang kanyang ipinaglalaban.

Nurse Alyn Andamo will be celebrating 40 years since she graduated from nursing school. She opted to stay in the Philippines to serve in poor communities that health care services seldom reach. She is the secretary general of the Filipino Nurses United.
